HB90 review: what is it, how does it work, and is it for me?

Ok, so I thought I would do a review of the HB90 course seeing as the first quarter is up and it’s open for enrolment to get through Q2!

Take a look at her course here!

HB stands for Sarra Cannon’s – a YA author – Heart Breathings business; 90 refers to the 90 days in a quarter (give or take). Sarra Cannon wanted to launch Heart Breathings as a way to support her author community, but the course offers much more to so many people. In my round, there were people from all walks of life! It is not just for authors!

The HB90 method is Sarra’s own method to plan for a quarter of the year that she has developed and honed for years. I was honestly incredibly sceptical that a course which claimed so much, could indeed help me. However, when I took the course (late December 2020), I was at a point where I felt I just wasn’t being productive in any area of my life and I needed to feel more in control (of what I could be). I needed some focus. I can’t deny I wasn’t in a vulnerable place.

Before I detail my experience, what does the course actually do?
“Are you ready for a different way of doing things? A new way of showing up so that you can thrive, no matter what is happening in the world?

I truly believe the HB90 Method can help you to focus and get to work in ways that will make a difference for you, your family, and your community.” – taken from course website.
The course will get you to dig deep and think about your true goals, it will help you to prioritise them, it will teach you true and effective time management, allow you to plan ahead and focus each week for the next 90 days.

First up, you get some ‘pre-course homework’ which is a workbook I highly suggest you complete. The questions she asks are deep, and I mean deep! At this point I was wondering if I’d enrolled in some form of therapy course too! But there are incredible reasons behind this. It directs your goals for the quarter so you can focus on moving forward.

She invites you to a private Facebook group – just for that round of enrolment – and after you are welcome to join the alumni group. Both these social media groups were instrumental in connecting with others going through the same thing as me. Even though our experiences, goals and careers may be different, it was incredibly supportive and helpful to ask questions!

Following the workbook and the live she does before the course starts, I was ready! Each day for an entire week, new modules unlock. Each module has a video or two from Sarra going into detail with examples and support. They are some of the most informed tutorials I’ve ever come across and this is helped by Sarra being a wonderful teacher, always with a big smile and showcasing her genuine personality. I’m really not lying! I’ve gone on to take another of her courses (a dedicated author one) and it’s the same there too.

She then goes through effective time management and planning. Everything she said made SENSE and I couldn’t believe how some of these were basic principles that I never employed before. I wasn’t the only one feeling this. In the private facebook group for that round of the course, many of us felt like we now understood where we had been going wrong with unrealistic expectations. It is good to have high reaching goals, but if we are never honest about how we will get there, we will constantly be behind.

I learnt the difference between goals, projects, and tasks; using this, I was able to create my 90 day plan. It’s long enough to feel like you are getting something moving and not feel like you’re stopping every five minutes wondering what to do next, but at the same time, it’s short enough that if you need to switch things up or find a particular project isn’t working, you’ve not wasted loads of time.
I picked my three goals and the tasks/projects I would need to work towards those goals. It seems I am actually set to meet all or part of my goals which I am very proud of. Without the course, I know this first quarter of the year would have seen me become even less productive and probably spiral in some negative mental health, however, I knew exactly what needed to be done having done all the hard work beforehand. It wasn’t perfect as some of my projects were not well thought out, so I adapted as I went! But the heart of the work – understanding what my true goals were and how to work towards them – I had already done the leg work for.

I can’t recommend this course enough. If you’re sceptical (like I was), take a look at the course website and the other testimonials on there.

The course starts on Sunday 14th with enrolment closing midnight on the 13th. You’ll kick off with a live from Sarra and from there, modules will unlock daily. Take each module as it comes – I cannot stress this enough! You will also have lifetime access to the course. I am able to take it again now if I so wish and throughout the quarter, I can revisit any modules I need. Not only this, but Sarra regularly drops into her Facebook groups to offer support and advice. Never again take a course which dumps a whole load of unhelpful, unusable information on you and then never again are you able to contact and ask questions. Sarra’s courses are for life!
